I, alas, can only take credit for the stitchery and not the design.
I fell in love with it the first time I saw it and went, hmm how to do this. Apparently pixel art is terribly easy (and also simultaneously terribly difficult) to convert into a cross-stitch design. The main problem was choosing colors. While the palette of colors available for use in pixel art is, for all intents and purposes, rather infinite, the brand of embroidery thread I used is limited to 600 or so colors. Add in the fact that all printers and monitors show color differently and that accounts for why this is not a perfect color match. I don't care though, it's still cute.
Kirby was the most difficult part to do (his face/head/body) because the idea within the stitch design was to have the colors transition into each other fairly smoothly. I sewed and ripped out that portion of the design about six and half times (to varying degrees). I am not 100% happy with how that portion turned out, but I believe it's the best I can do. You know, without hand dyeing my own colors to accurately match what I could see on both the printout and the monitor.
It isn't 'stretched' (or blocked depending on your terminology) yet, so that's why it's off-square and wrinkled. Me = Lazy.
Many many many thanks to darkmoon3636 for allowing me to use her design.
Wow, this is really awesome! I think you did a great job, and I'm honored that you chose my design.

Oooh, you should make a bunch of cross stitch throw pillows like grandma's have but have them all be video game character's instead of cats and/or roses and put them all around your house! I can just see Link and Mario everywhere.

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 10 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.

There's always a bright side to life. It's just a matter of not being too colourblind to be able to see it.
